Not the channel count on the homepage — everyone writes a big number there. It is the depth in the regions you personally watch, whether your local affiliate is carried, how the line behaves at 9pm on a weeknight, and whether there is a written refund term. Those four things vary enormously between providers and none of them appear in the marketing.
Both, and that is the point of it. The list is deepest in the United States and the United Kingdom — 773 and 834 channels — but it carries another twenty-plus countries in the same subscription. American households with family abroad are the households this suits best.
Licensed US bundles pay carriage fees per subscriber per channel, and those fees are most of the bill.
